Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me is a YA dystopian series. Mafi wrote five manuscripts before writing her first novel, Shatter Me, to gain a clear grasp of how to write. Shatter Me, her debut novel was released on November 15th, 2011. She has since published other books, including Unravel Point and Ignite Me. The series has a total of 6 books, plus extra short stories.

The series, which explores themes of isolation, resistance to tyranny, and hope, has been a hit. The main character is Juliette Ferrars, a 17-year-old girl. She gets locked in a small cell in an asylum because of her lethal touch that accidentally killed a boy. While she is not a threat, she has been secluded for so long that she begins to question her mental stability. Everything changes when she gets a roommate, someone she finds out can’t die by her touch. They plan an escape and manage to do it. During the series, she learns to channel her power to help fight an oppressive government. She witnesses betrayal and plot twists but never gives up hope and courage. The Shatter Me book series contains more than just death and unfortunate events. Readers get a steamy romance between  Juliette and the person who was presumed to be a rival.

The Shatter Me series might be getting a movie in the near future. ABC Signature Studios, an offshoot of ABC Television, purchased the rights to the novels.
