James Patterson is an American author known for his prolific output and wide-ranging contributions to the crime fiction genre. Born on March 22, 1947, in Newburgh, New York, he began his writing career with “The Thomas Berryman Number,” which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. However, it was the introduction of his Alex Cross series that catapulted Patterson into the limelight, making him a household name in thriller literature.

Throughout his career, Patterson has authored or co-authored numerous bestsellers across various series and standalone novels. Apart from thrillers, he has ventured into romance, science fiction, and children’s books, showcasing his versatility. Notably, he has established the James Patterson Literacy Challenge and donated millions to support reading initiatives and independent bookstores.
