Anna Pigeon is a mystery series written by Nevada Barr, a former park ranger and American author. It takes readers to the United States’ national parks, as she combines travels with a sprinkling of murders. The plot revolves around Ranger Anna Pigeon, who visits National Parks across the country. But her work extends beyond environmental protection. She also solves mysteries in the wilderness and in historical settings.

Park ranger Anna Pigeon has brought an unwavering love of nature and a sense of fairness to the mystery genre. Track of the Cat is the novel that presented Anna to the readers, a woman seeking peace in the wilderness—and instead discovering a murder.

Anna’s first job as a national park ranger in remote West Texas is marred by violence: the brutal death of a fellow ranger. Anna’s anger knows no limits when the cause of death is reported to be a mountain lion attack. It is up to her to save the protected animals from the locals’ ideology and preconceptions.

A Superior Death was her second book in the Pigeon series, and it was based on her experiences as a park ranger in Texas. It was well-received and rocketed her to fame as an aspiring mystery writer.

The series currently includes 19 books, with no news of an upcoming novel.
